ELA STAAR on April 8th – 12 more days to prepare to SLAY the STAAR!!!

Monday – Finish ELA DMAC Test, Extended Constructed Response practice/6.10. 6.11/Practicing our ECR strategies to prepare for the STAAR test on April 8th.

Tuesday – Correcting/Editing ELA DMAC Test, Extended Constructed Response practice/6.10. 6.11/Practicing our ECR strategies to prepare for the STAAR test on April 8th. The students who do not need to correct their responses will be preparing to share their DREAM JOB/CAREERS Essays that they prepared for an assignment a few weeks ago.

Wednesday – Breaking Down the ECR Strategies/6.10, 6.11/We will be discussing all the parts of an ECR and how we can improve our responses.

Thursday/Friday – DREAM JOB or CAREER/6.12/In the Think Lab the students will be sharing their essays and visual aids with their classes. We will be using the new “toy” that Mrs. Kelley has in the Think Lab.  It is a really neat interactive and touch screen computer screen that I want the students to learn to use.

 

March 17 – 21, 2025

                                                  HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!      MONDAY – TUESDAY: Extended Constructed Response(6.10./6.11): We will be reviewing the parts of a GOOD ECR response, aka essay, and discussing how to make a good score on the STAAR Test ECR quesions. We will be writing on Google Classroom about Spring Break.

WEDNESDAY: Revise and Edit(6.10): I will be giving them a copy of their written ECR to be edited and then corrected online.

THURSDAY: Journal Day(6.10): The students will be given a Journal Prompt to write an ECR about.

FRIDAY: Sentence Bad Guys(6.10): Introducing the 4 Sentence Bad Guys and how to find and fix their mistakes.

***PLEASE encourage your son or daughter to work on IXL Writing Strategies/Grammar & Mechanics Recommendations at least 15 minutes each night.  IXL will assess what your son/daughter needs to work on based upon their diagnostic test that they took in January. ALL of this will help them with the STAAR test in April. 

         ELA/Reading STAAR Test is in 19 days – Tuesday, April 8th!

MONDAY: President’s Day  – No School

TUESDAY: Review for MOCK STAAR/6.10/Writing an SCR to practice for the MOCK STAAR.

WEDNESDAY: ELA MOCK STAAR test

THURSDAY: Take a look at our test’s answers and make corrections as needed.

FRIDAY: ELA 2025 Journal Entry 2/6.11/After watching a brief video, we will write about what we saw.

February 3 – 7, 2025

FEBRUARY IS HERE….

Monday: Revise and Edit Review/6.10/We will be reviewing for a short DMAC test on Thursday in preparation for the benchmark and STAAR.

Tuesday:  Rules of Debate/6.11/We will discuss, practice, and go over the rules/how a basic debate works.

Wednesday: Revise and Edit Test on DMAC/6.10/We will take a 15 question practice test on DMAC in preparation for the benchmark and STAAR.

Thursday: Debates/6.12/Debates in the Think Lab.

Friday: Revise and Edit Test on DMAC corrections/6.10/We will discuss the DMAC test and work on corrections.

January 13 – 17

THIS WEEK: Revising and Editing; SCR

Student Expectation – 6.10C: Revise drafts for clarity, development, organization, style, word choice, and sentence variety.

6.10D.i: complete complex sentences with subject-verb agreement and avoidance of splices, run-ons, and fragments;

6.10D.ix: correct spelling, including commonly confused terms such as its/it’s, affect/effect, there/their/they’re, and to/two/too.

Just a few reminders….

  1. Make sure your chrome books are charged and you have your school issued charger with you in your bag.
  2. The only beverage allowed in classrooms is water. 
  3. Make sure that you bring your supplies to school.
  4. You will need to check your Enrichment assignment on FLEX every day. Every student will be assigned to a class for Enrichment every day.  Monday – Wednesday are academic classes for everyone. Thursday will be academic for some students.  Fridays will be Fun Friday Activities for everyone – you will need to sign up for these.  
  5. MOST teachers are available at 7:30 every morning for help with any assignments.  I am in my room every morning, unless not at school that day, at 7:30 and will gladly help on any subject or find someone who can help. 

January 6 – 10, 2025

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME TO 2025!

Monday: Teacher’s Work Day – Student Holiday

Tuesday: ESTEEM Survey – ONLY for students that participated in ALL of these health lessons.

Wednesday: Edit/Revise/Correct – we will take a look at our constructed responses to the DMAC test from December 16th – 17th

Thursday: Journal – we will start a new online Journal on Google Classroom.  The students will be given a writing prompt.

Friday: Detective Hanlon Mystery – students will read together in class the mystery and answer the questions about this mystery/Flocabulary Review Lessons to complete online.

Success is the sum of small efforts repeated every day.

WEDNESDAY: Extended Constructed Response practice using Curipod/6.10/Using a lesson created on Curipod we will be practicing writing an Extended Constructed Response using our R.A.C.E.S. Writing Strategy

THURSDAY: ECR/6.10/We will be discussing how to improve our responses from Wednesday’s assignment

FRIDAY: ECR Test on DMAC/6.10/We will use the same short story and question to answer a ECR on DMAC

***Next week we will be taking our Semester Exam in both Reading and ELA class on DMAC.  That is why we have been doing at least one a quiz/test every two weeks during ELA class. It will be taken in both Mrs. Owens’ reading class and my class.

MONDAY: ESTEEM TRAINING LESSON 12

TUESDAY: R.A.C.E.S Writing Strategy/6.10/We will find the parts of R.A.C.E.S. in our SCR answers.

WEDNESDAY: UIL Listening and Speaking Events today at White Oak Baptist Church/Since we will have a lot of students out for these events we will spend this day completing, correcting, and making up assignments.

THURSDAY:  District UIL Competition/We are hosting the district UIL competition today.

FRIDAY: Curipod Lessons/6.11/Extended Constructed Response practice.

November 18 – 22, 2024

MONDAY: R.A.C.E.S. Writing Strategy review/6.10/We will review this strategy every other day.

SCR using Curi.live/6.11/We will be writing about Thanksgiving

TUESDAY:  Grammar lessons on Flocabulary/6.10d/parts of speech and capitalization review

WEDNESDAY: Quiz reviewing SCR, revising, editing sentences/6.10 & 6.11/This will be on DMAC

THURSDAY: Christmas activity/We will be creating Christmas ornaments using different languages

FRIDAY: Advanced Classes will be watching “Out of My Mind” the book they read over the summer/All other classes will be working on ECR assignment on Curi.live

ADVANCED CLASSES:  ***All of my Advanced Classes are reading a story from Readworks entitled “Hacked” and the lessons are all on Google Classroom.  The students may choose to enter the writing contest that goes with these lessons, but it is not mandatory.  The lessons online ARE mandatory, but NOT the writing contest. There is a monetary prize of $2000 for the winner of this writing contest.  I will send out more details later this week.
