Good Afternoon,

Today my classes did a really AWESOME and NEAT community service by sending E-Valentines to patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They used their school gmail accounts and I told them to check them over the next few weeks in case they get a returned response from one of the patients.  I have done this in the past with my classes and some of them have gotten responses.  A few of them have even continued to correspond with these young people over the years.

6th Grade ELA Writing

All the students were given a new vocabulary list on Monday.  They were given a paper copy and it is also in Google Classroom.

We are having a Quiz over the first 10 words (argumentative text – evidence) on Monday, February 12th.

These need to be studied a few minutes each night.  We are going over them each day in class, but I have told

all the 6th graders that this is a homework assignment.

MONDAY – Vocabulary List 3/6.10/ Introduce these new words; finish “Creative Writing Assignment”

TUESDAY – Read “Stay or Go” endings/6.10/Read or “Stay or Go” story endings to our classes.

WEDNESDAY – Grammar review/6.10/Introduce all 8 parts of speech and identify them in sentences.  Group activity.

THURSDAY –Text Evidence/6.11/”Rise of Fandom” & “Is Fandom Good For You” – writing answers using text evidence from two paired texts. Step by step process of how to create well written sentences that use text evidence.

FRIDAY – Kahoot Vocabulary Review/6.10/We will play Kahoots to review the vocabulary words.

Quiz over the first 10 words will be on Monday, Feb. 12th!

Today is the end of the 1st Three Week Grading period of the 3rd Nine Weeks. 

I have updated all of my grades and told all of my students to check Student Portal.

Any assignment with a grade of a zero needs to be completed and turned in ASAP.

Many of these assignments are on Google Classroom and can be completed anywhere that

wi-fi is available.  I am in my room every morning at 7:30, if anyone needs help.

 

January 29 – February 2

FYI – If you look on Student/Parent Portal and see a grade of a “O” that means the assignment has NOT been turned in to me. I give students that have been absent at least one day for each day absent to make up missing assignments.  I have noticed over the last few “icy” and “rainy” days that many of my students are in the “I don’t want to do anything at home” mode.  In my 36 years of education, I have noticed that “Spring Fever” comes earlier and earlier every year.  ANY assignment for me can be made up or corrected and turned in to me to be graded.  I am in my room at 7:30 every morning, if any student needs help.  I will GLADLY stay after school on Monday or Thursday and help any student that needs help.

Chromebooks

EVERY night before they go to bed, your son or daughter

needs to PLUG in their chrome book.  They also need to bring

their charger to school with them EVERY day in case they need

to charge it at school.

On Wednesday and Thursday they will be taking benchmark

tests all morning and will need them charged.  Earbuds or

headphones will be needed on most days, also.
