6th Grade Study Hall – 8th Period (everyone does not have this class)

If your son or daughter has Mrs. McGoldrick’s 6th Grade Study Hall last period – THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS FOR YOU!

I MAKE them do work during this time.  They are sitting 1 or 2 people to a table in the cafeteria and they are NOT allowed to talk to each other during this class.  I will GLADLY help with any homework assignment for any subject.  If I do NOT know the answer or how to do the work, I will ask the teacher who assigned the work ASAP.  I want this to be VALUABLE time for them.  They need to bring their library book EVERY time.

I may occasionally ask one student to help another student if I feel like that is beneficial.  There are 48 students in this class, but it IS NOT CHAOS – because I will not let it be.  They are not allowed on their phones and may only be on chrome books doing an ACTUAL assignment – NO GAMES, unless they have been assigned. They have about 35 to 40 minutes to get work completed before they go home.

Once they come into the cafeteria with me 8th period, they will not be allowed back into the building(unless, of course, their parent works at the middle school) after school.  I am trying to “train” them to bring all their stuff with them that they need to take home.

Thanks and have a BLESSED DAY!!!

Vocabulary List 1 and Flash Cards

Every 6th Grade ELA Writing student has a Vocabulary List and a set of flashcards that they created in class.  They were told to put them in their Writing Folder with a paperclip inside one of  pockets in the folder.  We played a game with them today in class and I told the students that is what they need to do at home a few minutes each night.

Vocabulary Quiz 1 – Wednesday, August 30, 2023

We are working on English Language rules: Punctuation, Capitalization, Subject/Verb Agreement, etc. these first few weeks.

I have put grades in Skyward.  There is still time to turn the missing assignments in before they are assigned to ZAP.

August 22, 2023

Today we did a short assessment on Google Classroom about the 4 Types of Sentences.  You should be able to see your grade in your school Gmail.  If you did NOT pass, you will be able to retake it tomorrow.  We also made Vocabulary List 1 Flash Cards to help you study for our first Vocabulary quiz next Wednesday, August 30, 2023.  It will be on paper and matching – definitions ONLY!

It has been a GREAT start to a new year at White Oak Middle School…..We will be on Pep Rally Schedule this Friday since the Varsity Roughnecks will be hosting the Troup Tigers in their first football game of the season.  I will send out details about that tomorrow.

Thanks

4 Types of Sentences

We have been reviewing the 4 Types of Sentences in the English language.

Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, and Exclamatory – they will take a ten question on line Google Form tomorrow for a daily grade.  They should have two papers in their ELA Writing folder that we went over together in class.  We talked about this last week and reviewed today.  The paper below has the definitions, as well as examples.  Each student should have this in their folder.
