Welcome to Sixth Grade Writing

Hello,

My name is Jana Kay Hasley McGoldrick and I am a PROUD 13 year Roughneck that is returning home to White Oak ISD.  My aunt, Francis White, was a coach/teacher here in the late 50’s and early 60’s.  My mom, Janet Hasley, starting teaching at WOHS in the fall of 1968 and retired from WOMS in 2000.  My dad, Norval “Red” Hasley, served several terms on the WOISD School Board in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  My oldest brother, Hugh, graduated in 1972; middle brother, Jimmy, graduated in  1974; and I graduated in 1980.  This will be my 36th year in education, with 17 of those years being in Florida.  I have taught various subjects, all at the secondary level, and coached multiple sports – volleyball being my favorite.  I always knew I wanted to be a teacher/coach in large part to the amazing teachers and coaches that I had at White Oak.  My husband, Robert, and I have been married for 33 years.  My family is very important to me and I am excited to be back home in Roughneck Land.

This year in 6th grade English/Writing we will be creating short stories, poems, myths, and many other forms of writing. We will be studying parts of speech, proper sentence structure, and grammar rules. I am looking forward to working with your sons and daughters to help them become more proficient writers. My goal every school year is to help each of my students reach for the stars and to be the best version of themselves. I pray that this will be an AWESOME year for your child.
